How is AI Connected to Your HVAC System?

Schedule Now

Modern technological advances continue to quickly evolve, many of which improve basic mechanicals like an HVAC system. Thanks to high-tech gadgets and appliances, these include several smart HVAC system innovations via artificial intelligence.

This intelligence connects homes to comfort and convenience. Take advantage of the latest in HVAC system technologies from Apollo Home to boost your home’s comfort level.

What Makes an HVAC System ‘Smart’

So what exactly, makes an HVAC system ‘smart’? The technology typically leverages Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and sensors to connect systems via hubs. Examples include  Amazon Alexa, Google Home or a similar proprietary smart home device.

Either you can set the system to run automatically in the background of your life, or you can manually control your settings via a smartphone app.

Check out and consider having any of the below types of smart devices added to your home’s HVAC system.

Smart Thermostats Work with Your HVAC System

Smart thermostats like the ones Nest offers are one of the more well-known advancements in recent smart HVAC system technology. Are you familiar with all their capabilities?

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, as recently as 2015, 41 percent of U.S. homes had a programmable thermostat. They also found less than 29 percent actually programmed it.

These common features of smart thermostats may inspire you to install a smart thermostat in your home. Or, if you already have one installed, maybe they will inspire you to program yours:

  • Geofencing, which uses global positioning system (GPS) or radio frequency identification (RFID) to define geographic boundaries and create virtual barriers. These allow you to set up triggers to send alerts when a device enters or exits. For example, when you enter a radius around your home, the thermostat receives an alert and activates the HVAC system.
  • Upstaging and downstaging, which automatically initiates stages of heating or cooling. Actions are based on the difference between your desired temperature and your home’s current temperature.
  • Free cooling, if you have a ventilator installed in your home. This detects when outside temperatures are cooler than inside air. It then uses the outside air to cool your home instead of running the air conditioner.

Smart Vents

Another type of smart home technology to enhance your home’s HVAC system, smart vents help you lower energy consumption by automatically closing vents in unused spaces.

Smart vents act as replacements to your home’s current stationary vents. Unlike their traditional counterparts you manually move to control your home’s room-to-room airflow, smart vents have sensors which recognize a room is occupied.

They can then set the temperature, humidity, and air circulation room-by-room and discern problems such as blocked vents.

Much like smart thermostats, smart vents can pair with your smartphone for wireless controls and alerts using a smart home hub. Many smart vents are available on the market, and can often work together with other types of smart HVAC devices.

The Future of HVAC System AI

HVAC system manufacturers constantly experiment with automation and technological innovations in other home comfort equipment.

For example, smart humidification, dehumidification, and ventilation equipment come equipped with remote sensing capabilities, smartphone controls, and alerts to monitor your home’s indoor air quality factors.

In the future, industry experts predict someday HVAC systems could tie into other systems in your home, making adjustments based on the status of the rest of the house.

With technological advancements happening every day, who knows what the future will hold for smart HVAC systems!

"Ernie & Mike did a superb job on my new furnace and A/C installation. Despite having more than a day’s work to do, they came in and stayed until the job was done. They were organized, efficient, and protected the rest of the house well. Got both furnace and A/C installed the same day. Ernie was courteous, informative, and clearly knew his job better than anyone I’ve encountered before. The units look so good guests now get The Tour of our new system. Apollo is clearly not a fly-by-night company. I would recommend them to anyone in need of a new furnace and/or A/C."

"I called Apollo because of a water leak I thought I had in our upstairs shower going into the kitchen. Robbie came and assured me everything was fine & looked at all the other plumbing. He ended up changing a few pipes for our washer & clearing a drain. He was very nice & knowledgeable with all my questions. I ended up signing up for the care plan & was very happy with my service."

"The team at Apollo exceeded my expectations. As a business owner, my attention to the details and commitment to providing excellent service is high. From the sales rep. to the installation team, everyone’s performance was outstanding. For example, the installation team went to great lengths to protect our floors, placing floor runners and across the wood floors and up the stairs. They even were spot washing walls upon their departure. I highly recommend this company."

"We scheduled an estimate AND a tune-up. We knew something was wrong with our furnace, but hoped we could make it through the rest of the season. Upon telling Bill what our furnace was doing, he warned us immediately what the possible outcome was going to be; a cracked heat exchanger. He watched the flames roll backward, tested carbon monoxide levels, which were so high they meter’s last reading was 5,600 before saying “high”. He immediately shut it down, tagged it, and explained that with levels that high and children in our home he wanted off right away. He continued his inspection and showed us via a camera that not only was it cracked in multiple places, but had holes all over it. He gave us a few options for repairing it; his knowledge as well as genuine concern was beneficial and refreshing. Luckily we also scheduled an estimator, Micah, to come too and we were able to get costs between repairing and replacing (with several options). We decided to replace with a much higher efficiency furnace and one sized properly to our home. Hands down, not only did they both provide us great service and knowledge, but without sounding dramatic, they may have saved our lives. This was our first time calling Apollo, but it won’t be our last."

"Apollo is an excellent company. I always receive great service. Alex A. was professional and friendly. He kept me informed during the process of checking my furnace and heat pump to make sure they were working properly. The company makes sure you are notified who is coming and when they are on the way. All my interactions with the company have been wonderful."
