Why Look For The WaterSense Label? Because It Just Makes Sense

post img Have you heard of the Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program? If you haven’t, familiarize yourself sooner, rather than later. Buying products with the WaterSense logo can save you money while conserving a precious resource — water — and lowering greenhouse gases produced when water’s heated for bathing, showering and hand washing.   Products bearing the WaterSense label meet EPA specifications for performance and efficiency. And they have met third-party certification criteria. Among the products bearing the WaterSense logo:
  • Faucets
  • Toilets
  • Showerheads
WaterSense bathroom faucets WaterSense bathroom faucets and accessories can lower the flow rate in your sinks by 30 percent — and your water consumption by 500 gallons annually — without affecting performance. In addition, they can significantly lower your water-heating bills. WaterSense toilets Toilets typically account for 30 percent of a family’s water consumption. WaterSense toilets use 20 percent less water than the current federal standard and perform just as well. Converting your toilets can save you 11 gallons of water daily per toilet. That’s an estimated $90 yearly. WaterSense toilets are available in a range of styles and at a number of price points. WaterSense showerheads Showering accounts for more than 15 percent of an average family’s daily water consumption — about 30 gallons. Installing WaterSense showerheads can save you nearly 3,000 gallons of water annually. And as far as your water heating is concerned — the savings in kilowatt hours can equal what it takes to power your home for three days. How do you find WaterSense products? Simple. The next time you’re at the home-improvement store, look for products bearing the blue, white and green WaterSense logo. There’s a green leaf in the middle of it. Or ask a staff member to point them out. If you’re having any bathroom remodeling done, make sure your contractor installs WaterSense fixtures. Any questions?
