HVAC Technician Paid Training in Cincinnati

May 29, 2018

Get Paid to Learn a Trade at Apollo Home

Boomers are retiring, the heating and air industry is growing, and the result is a need for mechanically-inclined people to become HVAC contractors. Apollo Home continues to lead in paid technical training and support for certification and licensing for heating and cooling, plumbing and electrical services. Apollo Home works hard to develop their business and to cross-train technicians so they’re busy year-round, providing consistent employment and wage stability.

The HVAC industry may be taken for granted, but consider this: heating and air technology allows Americans to live and work comfortably regardless of location and climate. HVAC also assists in preserving our food supply and also with medical care and research. The ability to control the climate has become a necessity and installing and repairing technology are jobs immune to being shipped offshore.

According to a recent report, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates more than 115,000 additional HVAC contractors will be needed between now and 2022. Thatโ€™s an increase of more than 21 percent! During this same period, the Social Security Administration anticipates 22 percent of the U.S. workforce to retire, contributing to a talent gap.

Apollo Home Changing the Course for HVAC Contractors

Apollo Home, a leading provider of home mechanical services in Greater Cincinnati, is addressing this challenge directly. Recognized five years in a row now by the Cincinnati Enquirer as a Top Workplace, Apollo Home has created an apprenticeship program specifically for heating and cooling installations and repairs, as well as plumbing and electrical services.

โ€œYou can go spend thousands of dollars on a college or trade school education and graduate with debt and no promise of a job, or you can get paid to learn a trade with a growing company who commits to you,โ€ says Apollo Home CEO Jamie Gerdsen.

โ€œWeโ€™re willing to invest in the right people,โ€ continued Gerdsen. โ€œWeโ€™re looking more for dedication, an ongoing curiosity for learning, a drive to solve problems, belief in doing the right and fair thing for the customer, a desire to be the best and other aspects of our core values. If you have some education or military experience already, great. Weโ€™d like to help you go further and grow as part of our team.โ€

Apprenticeship Program Helps Students Earn While They Learn

Apollo Homeโ€™s HVAC contractor apprenticeship program is valued at $20,000 and provides classroom, hands-on learning and offsite education. Students are paid while learning and will become eligible for a pay raise upon successful completion of the program. The apprenticeship program takes an individual with little to no experience to earning a journeyman status.

Apollo Home continues its commitment to all employees through Apollo University (AU). This comprehensive professional development program incorporates continuing education for technicians and installers, as well as general customer service and management skills. Staying up to date with emerging technology and brands is important because Apollo Home will repair any brand, regardless of whether it was purchased through Apollo or not.

For men and women pursuing a plumbing or electrical license, the licensing process is a bit more complex and Apollo Home is there with students every step of the way. They are committed to doing what needs to be done to help students be successful.

โ€œThe classroom instruction involves role-playing scenarios and tests, and theyโ€™re in place to make sure weโ€™re teaching the material well and preparing our students for the various situations weโ€™ve encountered through our 100+ years of service to the Greater Cincinnati community,โ€ said Gerdsen.

โ€œTravel expenses for the offsite training are covered and weโ€™ve found ride-alongs with veteran personnel are valuable in getting hands-on experience both with the equipment and how to answer typical questions from customers.โ€

Incredible and Competitive Benefits for Apollo Home Employees

For benefits, Apollo Home offers an interest-free loan program so graduates can easily purchase the tools theyโ€™ll need right away. A truck is provided to HVAC contractors so he or she can leave straight from home in the morning and head home in the evening making fewer stops.

โ€œThis makes home life easier when our people can head straight to a childโ€™s sports practice or home in time to help with homework, continued Gerdsen. โ€œApollo Home values time with family, so we emphasize creating careers enabling employees to enjoy the time we have with our kids while theyโ€™re still at home.โ€

Other benefits for full-time employees include paid vacation, health, dental, vision and life insurance, a college savings plan, 401k personal retirement savings plan, free uniforms, a cell phone and tablet, gas for the company vehicle and more!
