Apollo Home is Investing in Plumbers
Apollo Home, a five-time Cincinnati Enquirer “Best Workplace” winner, is dedicated to serving homeowners’ plumbing and sewer needs. Because of this increasing talent shortage, Apollo Home is offering a paid training Apprenticeship Program. Valued around $20,000, this program is designed to take someone with little to no technical training and support him or her to licensed, journeyman status.
Compiled of weeks of classroom, hands-on and offsite training, the Apprenticeship Program offers a comprehensive education in plumbing, sewer services, customer service and professional development.

We can’t teach you those things, but we can teach you everything about plumbing. We care about a student’s success, because we, as a company, are only as successful as our people.”
To help students, time is spent role-playing various scenarios, giving them an opportunity to troubleshoot with fellow students and trainers. They also have extensive opportunities for ride-alongs with veteran plumbers to watch Apollo Home experts in action.
Apollo Home Provides an Alternative
In addition to retiring Baby Boomer generation workers and industry expansion, there’s a shortage of people pursuing careers installing and repairing plumbing, electrical and heating and air. A nationwide push in the 1970s to encourage more high schoolers to attend college, inadvertently steered graduates away from “blue collar” jobs.
The reality is, these so-called “blue collar” jobs can never be sent overseas, demand is increasing and income is going up too. The majority of “white collar” positions require expensive schooling leaving graduates with mountains of debt from tuition, fees, textbooks and housing while salaries in many cases are the same or less than career tradespeople.

Apollo Home takes recruitment even more seriously, by paying those participating in their Apollo Apprenticeship programs. The students are literally earning while they’re learning a trade. A second job to support themselves, like most college students, is unnecessary, so students can focus on their classwork and be involved with family and their community. "We scheduled an estimate AND a tune-up. We knew something was wrong with our furnace, but hoped we could make it through the rest of the season. Upon telling Bill what our furnace was doing, he warned us immediately what the possible outcome was going to be; a cracked heat exchanger. He watched the flames roll backward, tested carbon monoxide levels, which were so high they meter’s last reading was 5,600 before saying “high”. He immediately shut it down, tagged it, and explained that with levels that high and children in our home he wanted off right away. He continued his inspection and showed us via a camera that not only was it cracked in multiple places, but had holes all over it. He gave us a few options for repairing it; his knowledge as well as genuine concern was beneficial and refreshing. Luckily we also scheduled an estimator, Micah, to come too and we were able to get costs between repairing and replacing (with several options). We decided to replace with a much higher efficiency furnace and one sized properly to our home. Hands down, not only did they both provide us great service and knowledge, but without sounding dramatic, they may have saved our lives. This was our first time calling Apollo, but it won’t be our last."
