What’s so important about the NATE logo?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence. It’s a voluntary certification program approved by the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry (HVACR). HVAC companies choose to put their technicians through the extensive training because the certification exemplifies HVAC expertise.

How do technicians become NATE certified?

HVAC organizations and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) worked together to develop a rigorous set of core competencies that NATE-certified technicians must meet to wear the logo. By earning NATE certification, employers are assured their trained employee can handle any problems their customers may have and that the customer will get first-rate service.

To become NATE certified, technicians must pass both a core exam and specialty exam. They must not only study to be able to pass the test, but NATE also recommends anywhere from one to five years experience prior to testing. As you can see, this test requires both test preparation and real-life experience and knowledge. The NATE logo isn’t handed out; it’s earned.

Does the NATE logo really mean anything?

You bet! There are several certification programs for the HVACR industry. However, only NATE certification is endorsed across the board by the HVACR industry and is the toughest to pass. You know when you see this logo that you have a technician that meets the top standards in the industry.
