3 Signs That Your Cincinnati Home May Benefit From Professional Duct Cleaning
The ductwork that distributes conditioned air throughout your home is a critical component of the HVAC system. Ensuring it’s not contributing to poor indoor air quality is important, and that’s when duct cleaning comes in. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), there are certain situations where it’s advisable to have a professional duct cleaning.
Is It Time for Duct Cleaning?
If you see any of the following signs of contaminated or dirty ductwork, have it checked out by an experienced HVAC contractor. Your technician can assess the situation and advise you whether cleaning the ducts is warranted.
- Mold growth – If the right mix of moisture and warmth exists in your ducts, mold can proliferate. Telltale signs include a musty odor coming from the ducts or visible mold on the ducting material, vents or any other HVAC system components. Have the presence of mold confirmed by an expert, and then follow up with professional cleaning. To prevent a recurrence, it’s essential to also correct whatever conditions let the fungi gain a foothold.
- Excessive debris and dust – Consider having the ductwork cleaned if you see particles floating out of the supply vents whenever the blower cycles on. Registers frequently coated with dust also indicate dirty dusts.
- Vermin infestations – If they can gain access, pests can find a cozy home in your ducts, but insect body parts and rodent droppings shouldn’t be circulating in your air supply. If you hear or see any evidence of a pest infestation, contact an exterminator first and then schedule a duct cleaning.
If you and a professional determine that duct cleaning is necessary, make sure the contractor you hire adheres to the standards established by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA). Also, verify that their technicians are fully trained and follow the proper procedures to keep your home free of contamination and protect your costly HVAC equipment from damage.
