Why Learn a Trade?
For decades, American youth have been encouraged to go to college for high-paying jobs with job security. As of 2021, 53.7% of working-age Americans have earned a college degree or other postsecondary education credential. That means that jobs requiring a college education have a lot of applicants to choose from, and competition is fierce.
On the other side of the fence are the “trades.” Many from the older generation are retiring, but with trade industries continuing to grow each year, the demand for skilled workers remains high.
Reasons to consider learning a trade:
- Learning On the Job: The average college student borrows $30,000 to pay to go to school. When you’re learning a trade, you can make money while still learning on the job through our apprenticeship program.
- Job Availability and Security: Hundreds of thousands of trade jobs are available to those with the right skills. America will always need plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians.
- Attractive Compensation: Journeymen technicians make good money right out of the gate, rather than having to work their way up a corporate ladder while paying off college loans.
- Work With Your Hands: Trade jobs allow workers to stay active and work with their hands rather than being chained to a desk all day.
- Career Growth: When learning a trade, you’ll begin as an apprentice, grow into a journeyman, and work your way up into mastery status. You can also get additional certifications or training in rapidly growing fields. A trade career is often much more straightforward than the more ambiguous “corporate ladders.”
